Research and Development

The People’s Canopy project was instigated in July 2014, when PAO were commissioned to develop a bespoke temporary architectural intervention for Preston, with the aim of creating new, visible connections between the University of Central Lancashire and the city centre, and celebrating UCLan’s international links.

During October 2014, PAO partner, James Shen, undertook an intensive period of research in Preston. This involved mapping the campus and city centre; meeting with local residents and business owners; giving a public talk at UCLan and leading a workshop, attended by over 50 members of UCLan staff, students and members of the public, which explored the routes of movement and blockages that exist between the UCLan campus and city centre.
